What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutrition plays a significant role in people’s lives and their health even though they may not be aware of it. Nutrients and other food components influence the function of the body, protect against disease, restore health, and determine people’s response to changes in the environment. Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care (BANT 2017).

At Metabolism, nutritional assessment forms part of the consult in order to identify potential nutrient imbalances and their effects on the person’s presenting signs and symptoms, consequently informing part of the overall individual Well-being Plan. As a result a person may be prescribed, changes to eating patterns, functional foods and/or nutritional supplements.
